Welcome to the first of our monthly blogs ‘A Spotlight on Spotlight’ in which we will be bringing you up-to-date with what is going on in the group.
Grease update
After three days of Principal auditions and call-backs at the beginning of September, we finally cast the leading roles for our next show, Grease, and what a strong line up of young people they are once again this year. As well as the 19 Principal roles, there are an additional 46 talented ensemble cast members, so Rydell High is certainly going to be one busy High School.
Rehearsals are now well under way and already we can hear the cast delivering some fantastic harmonies, which is very exciting. Choreography has been designed to deliver that true 50s feel and the cast have already started learning new dance styles and techniques.
This year, we are building our own scenery and the construction and painting team have already started work at our hangar.
Behind the Scenes
We are delighted to announce that our new Sister Act set will be available for general hire from January 2019. Following a number of requests received from schools, who came to see our performance in April, we decided as a team to construct brand new scenery to complement the amazing costumes we already have in stock. It will have its first outing at King Edward VI School, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, in December.
Costume and scenery hire continues to be busy, with the most popular shows currently being Les Miserables, Grease, Legally Blonde, Sister Act, Hairspray and We Will Rock You. We are, however, finding that more schools and youth groups are also using our scenery stock for other shows, to create their own ‘vision’. In addition to the regular shows, we have also had a large demand for WW1 military costumes recently, from schools looking to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the armistice of World War 1.
